LG has stepped into the Jetsons era with its latest smart home innovation. At CES 2024, LG revealed a cutting-edge AI smart home companion that resembles “Rosie” from the futuristic cartoon.

Why Rosie? Well, this AI agent isn’t just a disembodied voice assistant or a stationary hub. It is, in fact, a small bipedal robot (an upgrade from Rosie’s single wheel design) that moves around the house, working seamlessly with LG’s range of smart home appliances to assist with daily chores.

Curious about this quirky robot at CES 2024? Let’s dig into what it can do.

This robot is the latest addition to LG’s “Zero Labor Home” initiative, designed to seamlessly integrate with an array of interconnected smart home appliances. During LG’s CES 2024 keynote, CEO William Cho highlighted how data collected from LG’s products serves to train its AI, enabling it to understand and even predict customers’ behaviors and needs. It’s no surprise that LG has put a major emphasis on AI and IoT. If 2023 was the year of ChatGPT and AI chatbots, 2024 is poised to be the year when generative AI becomes a game-changer for hardware, wearables, and robotics.

The AI agent is powered by LG’s smart home platform ThinQ, connecting seamlessly with the company’s range of smart appliances, including washer/dryers, ovens, and refrigerators. This robot features facial and user recognition, utilizing machine learning to understand context, ensuring personalized responses and communications tailored to individual household members. Its conversational abilities are driven by a powerful generative AI model, enabling users to engage with it during household chores, such as folding laundry, for example.

Yet, while these capabilities can be found in other smart home hubs, what sets LG’s AI agent apart is its mobility. This robot can function as a pet monitor, patrol the house for open windows or lights left on during your absence, alert you to medication schedules, and even make emergency calls.

Furthermore, its ability to greet you at the door and assess your mood through voice and facial analysis truly captures the essence of a 1960s-era robot housekeeper. In summary, the future has arrived, where science fiction becomes a tangible reality, fittingly unveiled at CES 2024.
